NECLTL – Development Fund
For the 2026 season, we are very excited to roll this project out to a 2nd primary school in the Stockport area. The chosen school is an inner city school and I feel the children will hugely benefit from this initiative. 20 children will have the opportunity to get out in the fresh air, exercise and have lots of fun which in turn will improve their confidence and self esteem and more importantly introduce them to a sport they might not otherwise have access to.
We are now opening up nominations for the 2027 season and I would love to keep the momentum going and take the Development Fund into its 3rd year. If you know of any school which would benefit from a full school term of tennis coaching please get in touch with your nomination.
Thank you.
Julie Cahill – Hon Sec
Background
This brand new initiative was created in 2024 and we delivered our first project in 2025. The school chosen was Bradshaw Hall Primary School and the directive was to deliver a tennis programme to the same 20 children each week, these were children who wouldn’t normally have access to playing tennis.
The children chosen were from Year 1 to Year 3 (aged 5-8), Adam Robison, Cheadle TC head coach, delivered the coaching and he instantly developed a fantastic rapport with the children.
The main focus was to get the children out in the fresh air, (through rain, hail and sunshine) and have great fun exercising, learning a brand new sport and hopefully giving them an experience they would remember and most importantly enjoy. The staff said “It was lovely to see the children grow and develop their skills each week and even after the term had finished the children kept asking “when can they play tennis again and when will Adam be back”.”
Julie Cahill, our Hon. Secretary who steered this amazing project felt the trial was a huge success. The NECLTL have always been committed to giving something back into our community but this programme will hopefully ensure that our local children will nurture a love of tennis for years to come.
